Three men arrested over suspected spying for foreign agency linked to China under National Security Act 2023
Spies Nabbed in Major Police Sweep
Counter Terrorism Police slammed the cuffs on three men on Wednesday, 4 March, over claims they helped a foreign spy agency tied to China. Officers swooped on suspects aged 39, 68, and 43 from London, Powys, and Pontyclun, Wales respectively. All remain held under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).
Counter Terror Chief Sounds Alarm
Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, revealed a spike in national security cases triggered the clampdown.
“We have seen a significant increase in our casework relating to national security in recent years,” she said. “These arrests are part of a proactive investigation. While serious, there is no immediate threat to the public. Our inquiry continues, and we thank the public for their support.”
Mass Raids From London to Wales and Scotland
The police blitz included searches in London, East Kilbride, and Cardiff, showing a UK-wide strike against espionage. Counter Terrorism units from Wales and Scotland threw their weight behind the operation.
Spy Probe Intensifies
The investigation is ongoing as officers scramble to uncover the full scope of the spying network. This case underscores rising fears about foreign interference and the government’s zero-tolerance stance on national security breaches.
