Drink-Driver Jailed for Murder After Fatal Castleford Crash
A reckless drink-driver has been handed eight years behind bars after a teenage passenger was killed in a horror crash in Castleford.
Night Out Ends in Tragedy
Jamie Bouncer, 22, borrowed a VW Golf from a house in Castleford where he had been at an after-party following a night out. Early on 12 January last year, he took the car for a spin with 18-year-old Taylor Lupton and the car’s 21-year-old owner.
With only a provisional licence and under the influence of alcohol, Bouncer lost control of the vehicle. The car smashed through a fence and crashed into a disused water treatment tank owned by Yorkshire Water.
Fatal Crash Details
- Taylor Lupton, father of two, was thrown from the car and suffered fatal head injuries.
- The vehicle’s owner was left seriously injured.
- The crash happened just after 5:40 am, in dark, freezing, and wet conditions.
- Investigators believe Bouncer was speeding well over the 30mph limit.
- A breath test over an hour later found Bouncer had 57 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath—well above the 35 microgram legal limit.
Court Hearing and Sentence
Bouncer, from Hall Street, Pontefract, admitted to causing death by dangerous driving, death while drink-driving, driving uninsured, and driving without a full licence at Leeds Crown Court.
He was sentenced to eight years in prison and banned from driving for 10 years and four months.
Heartbreaking Impact on Family
“I live with a constant sense of numbness, fear, and disbelief. I still cannot fully process that he is gone and not coming back,” said Taylor’s girlfriend, Megan Carswell.
“Our son will never meet his daddy, and Taylor will never meet his son. What hurts even more is I found out I was pregnant 10 days after he died.”
Megan revealed how Taylor’s 11-month-old daughter still points at photos, saying “daddy”. She added, “Taylor’s future was stolen from him. This loss will haunt me and his children for life.”
