Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Axe Attack and Dog Bite in Bermondsey
Violent Attack Shakes Bermondsey Estate
Police were met with chaos on Marine Street, Bermondsey, on Sunday afternoon. At 3.21pm, officers attending an ongoing investigation were violently attacked. Two officers were bitten by a dog, while another was attacked with axes by a man.
Suspect Tasared and Cuffed on the Spot
The suspect, a man in his 40s, was quickly overpowered with a Taser and arrested. The dangerous Cane Corso dog involved was seized and taken to police kennels for safety.
Officers Injured But Expected to Recover
- Two officers suffered axe wounds and dog bites. Both were treated at hospital and discharged with non-life-threatening injuries.
- A third officer had minor injuries not requiring hospital treatment.
Stephen Coombes Faces Multiple Charges
Stephen Coombes, 43, from Marine Street, now faces a string of charges, including:
- Attempted murder
- Possession of a dangerously out-of-control dog causing injury
- Racially aggravated public order offence
- Harassment intended to cause fear of violence
He is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, Monday, 2 March.
