Ian Huntley, the notorious Soham child killer serving life for murdering two 10-year-old girls, is fighting for his life after a vicious attack behind bars, the Daily Mail can reveal.
The 52-year-old was struck three times on the head with a metal pole during his work shift in HMP Frankland’s waste management workshop.
The attack unfolded around 9.30am when another inmate grabbed a metal bar from a waste crate and smashed Huntley’s skull, leaving him in a pool of blood with catastrophic head wounds.
Triple Murderer Anthony Russell Suspected
Sources believe 43-year-old triple murderer Anthony Russell carried out the savage assault.
Eyewitnesses claim other prisoners cheered as Russell was led away in handcuffs, shouting: “I’ve done it, I’ve done it. I’ve killed him, I’ve killed him.”
Russell was convicted of strangling Julie Williams and her son, plus raping and murdering pregnant Nicole McGregor in 2022 — a brutal killer himself.
Huntley’s Condition ‘Touch and Go’ After Horror Attack
Huntley was housed on Wing A, a segregated unit for vulnerable inmates including sex offenders and jailed police officers. They move together but are kept separate from the general prison population.
A source told the Daily Mail: “The assault caused very serious injuries after being hit on the skull three times. The scene was absolute chaos.”
Another visitor described Huntley’s appearance post-attack: “He looked like he’d been ripped apart like a rat. He’s in a bad, bad way. I shouldn’t say it, but it’s what he deserves.”
Currently, Huntley is in a medically induced coma in hospital. His condition remains “touch and go.”
Not Huntley’s First Rough Ride Inside
- This marks the third known violent attack on Huntley behind bars.
- In 2005, boiling water was thrown over him.
- In 2010, his throat was slashed with a makeshift weapon.
- Last year, he sparked outrage by wearing a Manchester United ‘No 10’ shirt—a cruel reference to the photo of the girls taken on the day they were lured to their deaths.
Durham Constabulary confirmed: “The 52-year-old prisoner injured this morning remains in serious condition. Police have identified a suspect in his mid-40s who remains detained within the prison.”
Huntley lured Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman into his Soham home in 2002 before murdering them and dumping their bodies 12 miles away — a crime that shocked the nation.
