New Wiltshire Police Cadets Sworn In with Full Ceremony

Eighteen fresh-faced cadets have officially joined Wiltshire Police, pledging their commitment in front of proud families and VIPs.

The youngsters, who signed up in September 2025 from Chippenham, Swindon, and Trowbridge, took their oath at a packed event held at Wiltshire Police HQ in Devizes on 23 February.

ACC Smith Hails Volunteer Spirit

Assistant Chief Constable Smith welcomed the cadets into the “Wiltshire Police family,” praising the vital role volunteers play.

“It was a privilege to welcome these young people into the Force, who have given their most precious commodity, their time, to serve the communities of Wiltshire. “Volunteers bring richness and diversity to the Wiltshire policing family. All are giving something back to the public we serve and helping to keep them safe. “Their roles are vital. They bring a wealth of valuable skills and experience, creating closer and more effective relationships with our county. “The impact of the time you give is felt across the Force, and it is valued immensely. I am very grateful for your hard work and commitment. You are very much part of our police family.”

Certificates, Sliders & High Praise from VIPs

The High Sheriff explained the importance of the oath, after which Chief Inspector Steve Jolly handed out certificates. Cadet Patron Lady Gooch presented the new cadets with their sliders – a badge of honour in their uniforms.

Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson closed the ceremony, saying:

“It was a pleasure to see our new cadets take their oath and formally begin their journey with Wiltshire Police. Their decision to step forward and volunteer their time in service of our communities reflects a level of commitment and maturity that deserves real recognition. “I look forward to seeing how they develop their skills and continue contributing to their local communities over the coming months.”

Cadet Coordinator: “A Night to Remember”

Afterwards, cadets, families, and VIPs gathered for refreshments and photos. Alison Creswell, Cadet Coordinator, praised the young recruits:

“It was a truly meaningful evening for our cadets. “Standing up and speaking before their families and distinguished guests is no small task, but with the support of their dedicated leaders, they rose to the challenge with confidence and maturity, despite their nerves. “They made their families, their leaders, and everyone who attended feel incredibly proud.”

The Chief Constable missed the ceremony due to a Facebook Live event but wished the cadets luck during their pre-ceremony uniform check.
