Stretchy Toys Pulled Over Asbestos Scare
HTI Toys has recalled several stretchy toy products after tests found a sand-like filler inside some batches contained trace amounts of asbestos. The banned hazardous material poses serious health risks—even at tiny levels of exposure.
Health Alert: Asbestos Found in Kids’ Toys
Asbestos is illegal in the UK due to its proven dangers. These contaminated toys fail to meet the strict Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011, forcing an immediate product withdrawal from all shelves.

Aldi Warns Shoppers: Don’t Use These Toys
Aldi’s statement urged customers to stop using the recalled Stretcherz Twin Pack Skulls immediately. “As a precaution, our supplier is recalling these products due to potential asbestos contamination,” Aldi confirmed.
Shoppers should safely dispose of the toys and take them back to Aldi with proof of purchase for a refund.
How to Safely Dispose of Contaminated Toys
The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued clear disposal instructions to minimise asbestos exposure:
- If untouched, keep the sand in its packaging, place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag, seal it tightly, label it clearly, and store it away from children.
- If used, clean any affected surfaces with damp cloths to prevent dust formation.
- Wear gloves and a mask during cleaning.
- Double-bag all waste, including gloves and cloths, before disposal.
- Keep children and others away from the area until fully cleaned.
If returning the items to Aldi isn’t possible, customers can dispose of them in their general household waste provided they follow these precautions.
