Wiltshire Soldier Found Dead After Shocking Child Sex Probe
A 30-year-old army sergeant from Wiltshire has taken his own life after being arrested over child sex offences.
Sergeant Vanishes Amid Hunt
Alex Cairnie, a father of two and member of the Queen’s Royal Hussars, disappeared from his Tidworth barracks around midday on 6 July 2025. A massive search effort involving hundreds of soldiers and police was launched.
Two days later, tragedy struck when a birdwatcher discovered Cairnie hanging at nearby Warren Hill.
Under Investigation for Child Abuse Material
While the Wiltshire coroner kept details under wraps, sources confirmed Cairnie was facing charges linked to possession of child abuse material. He was interviewed at Gablecross Police Station in Swindon just days before his death and released on bail away from his home.
