BMW Fires Warning with Huge Starter Motor Recall
BMW has issued a colossal global recall, pulling in around 575,000 vehicles amid fears of a fiery hazard linked to dodgy starter motors.
Starter Motor Defect Could Lead to Car Blaze
The German auto giant revealed that the starter motor’s magnetic switch wears down over time. This can cause the motor to overheat after multiple uses. Drivers might notice their engines struggling to start at first. But in rare, serious cases, this fault could spark a fire while the car is cruising down the road.
Which BMW Models Are in the Hot Seat?
A BMW spokesperson confirmed the recall affects “mid-six-figure” cars produced between July 2020 and July 2022. The list includes:
- 2 Series Coupe
- 3, 4, 5 and 7 Series saloons
- 6 Series Gran Turismo
- X4, X5, X6 and Z4 SUVs
What BMW Drivers Must Do Now
The fix? A full starter motor replacement. In some cases, BMW may swap out the battery too. The company promises to contact affected owners to arrange free repairs at local dealerships.
For now, BMW urges drivers not to leave their cars running unattended as a safety precaution. Better safe than sorry.
