Crawley was thrown into chaos after a welfare call sparked fears of a firearm sighting on Perryfield Road, Southgate. The panic broke out just after midday on Friday, January 30, sending armed police rushing to the scene.
Armed Police Rush In
Sussex Police acted fast, deploying armed officers to secure the area. A 66-year-old man was arrested calmly on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Inspector Dave Bulger said: “This was an isolated incident and we understand the worry it caused locally. We thank the public for their patience during the road closures. Officers will keep patrolling the area to reassure residents. Anyone with concerns should feel free to approach them.”
