BMW Madness: Speed Demon Jailed for Nottingham Crash
A reckless driver who tore through a red light and caused a horrific crash near Nottingham Trent University has been locked up and banned from driving. Muhammad Asim, 20, slammed his BMW into a Ford Fiesta at breakneck speed, seriously injuring three people.
Speeding BMW Smashes Into Ford Fiesta at Midnight
Asim was caught on camera racing at more than twice the 40mph limit just moments before the collision at 1:40am on 20 September 2024. His BMW crashed into the Fiesta as it turned off the A453 into College Drive, sending both vehicles spinning near the university’s Clifton campus.
Three Victims Left Fighting For Recovery
- A female passenger in Asim’s BMW suffered a severe brain injury and multiple fractures. She is still undergoing rehab.
- The Ford Fiesta’s driver and passenger, both just 18, sustained multiple fractures, spinal injuries, and internal damage.
- Asim fled the scene but was caught over an hour later, found to be over the legal alcohol limit.
Jail Sentence and Long Road to Return Behind The Wheel
After a full investigation, Asim pleaded guilty in November to three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Nottingham Crown Court sentenced him to three years and nine months behind bars on 30 January. When freed, he faces a five-year driving ban and must pass a tough extended driving test before he’s allowed back on the road.
“Pathetic sentence for dangerous driver who seriously injured 3 people,” a local resident fumed, highlighting anger over the punishment.
