Four Men Jailed for 124 Years Over Brutal Daylight Murder in Moreton
Four men have been locked up for a combined 124 years after Jacqueline Rutter, 53, was shot dead in her own home in a chilling daylight attack that stunned the Moreton community.
Gruesome Early Morning Shooting
Just after 1am on Sunday, 30 October 2022, three men pulled up outside Ms Rutter’s Moreton house in a black Vauxhall Insignia. Two of them knocked on her door. When she opened it, they shot her twice at close range.
The killers made a quick getaway, leaping back into the car – which was later set ablaze to cover their tracks. Waiting nearby was a fourth man with a silver Ford and a Yamaha motorbike, ready for their escape.
Harsh Sentences After Gruelling Trial
Following a tough three-month trial, justice was served with heavy jail terms:
- Simon Allen, 55: 28 years for murder
- James Byrne, 24: 40 years for murder
- David Harrison, 59: 26 years for murder
- Barrie Glynn, 47: 30 years for manslaughter and firearms offences
Allen, Byrne, and Harrison were found guilty of murder, arson, and possession of firearms with intent to endanger life. Glynn was convicted of manslaughter and related charges.
Judge Slams ‘Extreme Violence’
“Jacqueline Rutter was an innocent victim of extreme violence,” the judge said. “Her death has brought profound grief to her family.”
The killers face decades behind bars. Glynn must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before eligibility for parole. This case sends a powerful warning about the brutal reality of violent crime in the UK.
