Half the Drivers Nabbed for Traffic Offences
The sweep on Newington Road near Manston Road hauled in 49 drivers for warnings or enforcement. Officers uncovered a host of motoring crimes, including:
- Incorrect seat belt use
- Number plate violations
- Faulty or missing vehicle documents
- Dangerously worn tyres
- Uninsured vehicles
One car had tyres so bald it posed an immediate hazard. The owner was hit with a traffic offence report and issued stern safety warnings.
Ashford Man Caught Drug-Driving with Illegal Tyres
A 35-year-old from Ashford was arrested for suspected drug-driving and driving with illegal tyres. Police found cannabis in his car, which was confiscated for destruction. He has been bailed pending further investigations.
Authorities also seized a vehicle and two e-scooters for being uninsured.
Inspector’s Stark Warning: Check Your Vehicle or Pay the Price
“Almost 60 percent of vehicles stopped had issues,” said Inspector James Johnston of the Kent Special Constabulary. “This is a clear warning to all drivers — regularly check your vehicle before you get caught. Offences can lead to fines, points, arrests, or court. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
