Predator jailed for 16 years after raping a sleeping woman in chilling Highworth attacks
Highworth Horror: Victim Targeted Twice
Daniel Smith, 45, from North Leigh, Oxfordshire, has been locked up for 16 years for raping and sexually assaulting a woman he knew, while she was asleep in her own home.
The terrifying ordeal happened on November 4, 2023, when Smith attacked the woman in her 30s. Just five weeks later, he broke into her bed again and groped her without consent.
Swift Justice: 16 Years Behind Bars
The victim bravely reported the assaults on December 18. Police acted quickly, arresting Smith immediately.
On January 23, Swindon Crown Court handed down a heavy sentence: 11 years in prison plus five years extended licence.
Judge Taylor described Smith as a dangerous offender with a history of sexual crimes. The sentence was increased due to previous convictions and alcohol involvement.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery
“The victim has shown incredible bravery and strength through this trial, reliving her trauma,” said Detective Constable Hemns.
“Smith remains on the Sex Offender Register and is indefinitely subject to the SHPO. I hope the victim can now begin to heal.”
