A Homeland Security officer is set to lose a finger after violent Minneapolis rioters bit it off during chaotic clashes sparked by a fatal federal shooting.
Horrific Attack: Officer’s Finger Bitten Off in Riot
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released graphic photos showing the officer’s mangled right hand, with blood pouring from the injury. Another chilling image shows the severed finger preserved in a medical container, nail intact. DHS public affairs chief Tricia McLaughlin posted the images on social media alongside pictures of two suspects involved in the vicious attack.
Deadly Federal Shooting Triggers Uproar
The violence erupted after federal agents fatally shot 37-year-old registered nurse Alex Pretti just after 9am on Saturday. Agents were attempting to arrest an “illegal alien wanted for violent assault” when Pretti allegedly intervened. DHS says officers tried to disarm him but he “violently resisted.”
“Defensive shots” were fired by an agent fearing for his life and colleagues, according to DHS. Officials also claim Pretti had two magazines on him and no ID, suggesting potential “maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.”
But online videos show Pretti holding a phone — not a weapon — when he was shot, sparking fierce debate.
Local Backlash and Conflicting Claims
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed Pretti had no criminal record beyond parking tickets and was a licensed gun owner working as a nurse at the Minneapolis VA Hospital.
This is the second deadly federal shooting in Minneapolis this month after the death of Renee Good under similarly controversial circumstances.
Fury from Politicians: Governors Slam Federal Agents
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz blasted federal agents, demanding President Trump withdraw them immediately. “Another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening,” Walz said. “The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar branded the killing “an execution by immigration enforcement,” calling it “heartbreaking, horrifying, and appalling.”
Trump Team Fires Back
The White House hit back hard. Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller called Pretti a “would-be assassin” and accused Democrats of siding with “terrorists.” President Trump posted a photo of the so-called “gunman’s gun” and hinted at a Democrat cover-up involving billions stolen from Minnesota.
Democrats fired back, condemning the administration’s immigration crackdown as “a campaign of organised brutality.”
