A quiet Hampshire village is reeling after a gruesome family tragedy. A 68-year-old grandmother was found fatally stabbed in her cosy thatched cottage.
Grim Discovery in Cheriton
On January 9, paramedics found Gilly Livie with severe stab wounds at her Cheriton home. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Nearby, a man with life-threatening injuries was rushed to hospital.
It later emerged the injured man was Gilly’s 39-year-old son, Daniel Livie, who has now been charged with her murder.
Neighbours Recall Kind-Hearted Gilly
Neighbours described Gilly as the heart of the community. One told The Telegraph, “She was a lovely lady, a keen runner who had dogs and chickens. Very kind and involved quietly with everyone.”
Another said to the Daily Mail, “Gilly had free-range chickens and I used to get eggs from her. Friendly, gentle, and so kind. This is just devastating.”
Police Step In: Murder Charges Filed
Hampshire Constabulary responded to a call about 10:30am on January 9 at the B3046 address. They found Daniel Livie seriously injured and took him to hospital.
He was arrested on January 19, charged with murder the next day, and also faces charges over alleged threats to kill made on January 8.
Daniel is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court today.
