Half a Century Later: Police Relaunch Hunt for Missing Student in French Riviera Mystery
Vanished Without a Trace in Sun-Soaked Antibes
Nearly 50 years ago, 20-year-old Sarjit Kaur Mann from Birmingham University disappeared on holiday in Antibes, France. The young student vanished in late September 1976, sparking one of the West Midlands’ longest-running cold cases.
Sarjit had been holidaying with her family but decided to stay behind with three British women she met on the beach. The trio, described as white and aged late teens to early twenties, included a woman who gave the name “Jane.” Sarjit wanted to explore local museums while her relatives headed home.
Mysterious Call Claims Student Drowned – But No Body Found
Days after Sarjit vanished, her family received a chilling phone call from the woman calling herself Jane. “Sarjit drowned. We are sorry, we couldn’t do anything,” said the caller before hanging up. The mysterious caller was never identified and, despite exhaustive searches, Sarjit’s body has never been found.
Police Plea: Someone Must Know What Happened to Sarjit
“We are keeping an open mind regarding what happened to Sarjit,” said PC Shaun Reeve from West Midlands Police’s Missing Person Investigation Unit. “Though the descriptions are vague and decades have passed, we believe someone out there holds vital information. Sarjit would be around 70 now, and we’re urgently trying to track down these women or anyone with any clue.”
