Chug Along to Bournville’s Model Railway Bash to Save Cadbury’s Steam Legend!
A one-day model railway bonanza is set to steam into Bournville, aiming to raise vital funds for the restoration of the iconic Cadbury No 1 steam engine. This historic locomotive, once a fixture at the famous chocolate factory, needs a fresh cosmetic makeover to bring it back to its former glory.
When and Where: Mark Your Calendars!
All aboard at St Francis Church on Saturday, 31 January 2026. Doors open at 10:00 GMT. Every penny raised will help restore the 1925-built steam engine, lovingly cared for by the Vintage Trains Charitable Trust at Tyseley.
The Man Fueling the Drive: Andrew Christie
Local train buff and lifelong enthusiast Andrew Christie is the mastermind behind the event. Since kicking off fundraising in 2024, he’s already banked over £3,600. With deep family ties to Cadbury, Andrew said he wanted to “give something back” to this beloved piece of Bournville’s history.
“I’ve loved steam trains for as long as I can remember,” he said. “Cadbury No:1 is a real symbol of Bournville, and it’s wonderful to see the community coming together to help restore it.”
