Brighton on Edge: Four Protests Rock the City
Sussex Police faced a busy day in Brighton as FOUR separate protests erupted across the city. Demonstrators gathered at key central spots, sparking tension but no violence.
Rival Rallies Clash at Clock Tower
The biggest showdown happened around the Clock Tower, where pro-Israel and pro-Palestine groups held opposing rallies. Police kept a heavy presence to separate the factions and prevent trouble.
Protests Spread Across Town
- An Iranian-related protest took place outside Churchill Square shopping centre.
- A women’s rights march started from Brighton railway station, winding through the town centre.
- Pro-Palestine campaigners gathered outside Barclays at another busy city centre spot.
Order Maintained Amid Traffic Snarls
Despite the scale and number of protests, Sussex Police reported no violence, arrests, or major incidents. Officers worked round the clock to keep public order and keep key routes clear.
Minor traffic delays hit the town centre and march paths, but police and stewards kept disruptions minimal.
The calm atmosphere held strong, but the public was warned to expect a continued police presence until all protests ended.
Sussex Police said: “Thanks to the cooperation of demonstrators and residents, our proactive planning ensured the day passed peacefully.”
