Armed Police Storm Romford Home Over Explosives Scare

Chaos erupted on Redcar Road, Romford, Thursday afternoon when armed cops rushed to a house after a welfare call turned explosive. At 2:22pm, police were alerted that a man in his 50s claimed to have explosives inside the property.

Standoff Ends After Hours of Intense Negotiations

Specialist negotiators spent over three hours coaxing the suspect out. At around 5:40pm, he finally surrendered and was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and possessing explosive materials. Shocking video footage shows armed officers and a police dog pinning him down and searching him before taking him into custody.

Investigation Underway But No Terror Link Found

The Metropolitan Police confirmed nobody was hurt and emphasised the incident isn’t terror-related. The London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade were also at the scene, ready for action.

Met spokesperson: “On Thursday, 15 January at 14:22hrs, police were called following concern for the welfare of a man in Redcar Road, Romford. Specialist officers and negotiators attended the scene and engaged with the man in his 50s, who was inside a residential property and claimed to possess explosives. At around 17:40hrs the man exited the property and was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and making/possessing items to create explosives.”

As of 17 January, no charges have been filed but the investigation is ongoing.
