A man has been jailed for life with a minimum 29-year term after viciously stabbing his estranged wife to death inside a Bootle shop.
Deadly Stab Attack at Bootle Convenience Store
Nimalarajah Mathiyaparanam, 47, from Warrington Road, Widnes, admitted murdering his estranged wife. He also pleaded guilty to carrying a knife in public. His guilty plea came on day two of his trial at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, 16 January.
The horror unfolded just after 5pm on 20 June 2025 at the Low Cost Food and Wine shop on Stanley Road. Police found 44-year-old Nilani Nimalarajah with multiple stab wounds. Despite being rushed to hospital, she sadly died shortly after.
Suspect Arrested After Swallowing Unknown Substance
Mathiyaparanam was arrested at the scene but swallowed an unknown substance, landing him in critical condition. He spent weeks in hospital before recovering. He was formally charged on 16 July.
History of Restraining Order Breach
Courts heard Mathiyaparanam had previously breached a restraining order protecting Nilani, highlighting a disturbing history before the fatal attack.
