An 18-year-old from Cwmbran, Morgan Mckenzie, has been locked up for 14 months in youth custody after pleading guilty to possessing terrorist material. The grim case sent shockwaves when police uncovered his dark online chats hinting at violence targeting an Oasis concert.
Disturbing Online Chats and Knife Buying Spree
At just 17, Mckenzie’s internet activity revealed a troubling obsession with violent attacks. Investigators found messages where he researched attacks and fantasised about striking at an Oasis gig. Adding to the alarm, he tried to buy knives online — a move that sparked serious public safety fears.
These communications did not amount to a credible or actionable plot,” said the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). “He was fantasising, expressing violent thoughts, and seeking attention online.”
No Real Terror Plot, Just Dark Fantasies

Mckenzie admitted to holding information likely useful to terrorists, breaching section 58(1) of the Terrorism Act 2000. The court handed down a 14-month detention sentence — light, given the lack of actual plotting, but firm on the danger posed by his extremist material.
