A chilling murder has rocked Merseyside after a man was jailed for life for killing his estranged wife in a shocking knife attack at a local shop.
Husband Stabs Estranged Wife to Death on Shop Floor
Nilani Nimalarajah, 44, was behind the counter at Low Cost Food and Wine on Stanley Road on Friday, 20 June 2025, when her estranged husband, Nimalarajah Mathiyaparanam, turned up out of the blue.
Ms Nimalarajah had no warning. She was found with multiple stab wounds and was rushed to hospital, but tragically died shortly after.
Family Breaks Silence: “Her Love Will Never Be Forgotten”
Mathiyaparanam was promptly arrested and charged with murder. At sentencing, he was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 29 years behind bars.
Heartbroken family members paid tribute to Nilani as a devoted mother of three. Her eldest daughter said,
“My mum was love in its purest form. Her life mattered, her love remains and she will never be forgotten.”
A Victim Impact Statement described Ms Nimalarajah as a strong woman who raised her daughters to be respectful, honest, and caring — always fighting for her family.
Police Issue Warning: Domestic Abuse Must Stop Now
Merseyside Police vowed to deliver justice for Nilani and support her grieving children. They urged anyone suffering domestic abuse, or who suspects someone else is at risk, to get in touch with police or local support services immediately.
