Tragic Blaze Kills Woman at Chiswick Supported Living Complex

A woman has died after a devastating fire ripped through a sheltered housing block in West London last week.

Fire Tears Through Chiswick Flat

The blaze broke out in a first-floor flat on Brooks Road, Chiswick, just after 4.20pm on Friday, January 9. Flames quickly spread into the corridor, engulfing the Meadowcroft complex.

Firefighters rushed to the scene, rescuing the injured woman and rushing her to hospital. Sadly, she died four days later on Tuesday, January 13, from serious fire-related injuries.

Heroes Save Other Residents Amid Chaos

London Fire Brigade crews saved four other residents trapped in neighbouring flats using fire escape hoods. All were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital as a precaution.

In total, 70 firefighters and ten fire engines from Chiswick, Acton, and Mitcham battled the fierce blaze. The fire was brought under control by 6.05pm the same day.

Investigation Continues as Firefighters Praised

The cause of the fire remains unknown as officials launch a full investigation.

“Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends as well as all those impacted by this sad incident,” said London Fire Brigade Assistant Commissioner Andy Pennick.

“Local crews worked closely with partners to support evacuated residents, many of whom are elderly or vulnerable. We set up a rest centre for around 30 evacuees.”

“Crews arrived within three minutes of the alarm and faced a fierce, well-developed fire. Thankfully, an automatic fire alarm alerted us quickly, no doubt preventing further tragedy.”

“This fire highlights the vital importance of working smoke alarms, especially in residential buildings housing vulnerable people.”
