Wiltshire’s roads are under siege as police crack down hard on impaired driving. In December 2025 alone, 120 motorists were busted for drink or drug driving — a staggering 35% jump from last year.
Operation Limit Hits Wiltshire Roads Hard
Wiltshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) led a fierce crackdown as part of the national NPCC Operation Limit. Throughout December, officers ramped up patrols, hunting down anyone caught behind the wheel under the influence anywhere in the county.
Drug Driving Soars as Police Sharpen Detection
- Of those arrested, 40.8% were suspected of drug driving.
- Drink driving made up the remaining 59.2% of arrests.
Thanks to new detection tools and tactics, police have dramatically improved their ability to sniff out drug drivers, reflected in the surge of drug-related arrests last month.
Road Safety Boss Demands Zero Tolerance
“While the rise in arrests is worrying, it shows we’re serious about protecting Wiltshire’s roads,” said Inspector Neil Duffin, head of the Roads Policing Unit. “We’re dead set on stopping these dangerous drivers before tragedy strikes.”
“The law is crystal clear — driving under the influence is illegal and won’t be tolerated. Our officers will keep up the pressure all year long to make our roads safer for everyone.”
