Heartless Pair Rob Dying Man on Dudley Street
A shocking crime unfolded on a Dudley street when a couple stole from a man as he lay dying.
Callous Theft Amid Cardiac Arrest Drama
West Midlands Police revealed grim details of the incident. At 10.30pm on 15 December 2024, officers rushed to a man suffering cardiac arrest outside a Himley Street address.
While paramedics fought to save him, Jason Pettit was seen leaving the scene carrying a green shopping bag. His partner, Jodie Westwood, lingered nearby with a backpack in tow.
Police asked the pair to stay, but they ignored orders and walked off — only to return shortly after without the stolen loot.
Stolen Goods Found at Couple’s Home
An investigation revealed the victim’s phone, smartwatch, and flat keys were missing. Tracking the phone led cops straight to Pettit’s house.
Officers recovered a haul of stolen items including:
- Tablet
- Headphones
- Newspaper
- Man bag
- Wallet with victim’s bank cards
- Backpack Westwood had carried
- Laptop containing victim’s personal documents
Couple Sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court
West Midlands Police disclosed Westwood had called 999 during the incident. The call handler even guided CPR amid the couple’s shouting match.
On 7 January, Pettit, 47, pleaded guilty to burglary with intent and theft, landing 3 years and 8 months behind bars.
Westwood, 42, admitted theft from a person and was handed a 2 years and 5 months sentence.
PC Katie Hadley blasted the pair: “The acts of Pettit and Westwood were cold-hearted, committing theft when a man needed help.” “We take a strong stance on burglary and worked hard to piece together this incident. Our thoughts are with those who knew the gentleman. I hope the sentences and time behind bars give them a chance to reflect on their callous acts.”
