Bomb Squad Descends on Bondi Over Suspicious Vest Scare

Police and bomb disposal teams swarmed Bondi Junction late Sunday after a man was spotted wearing a suspicious vest. The tense stand-off unfolded near the site of last month’s tragic attack that left 15 dead.

Man in Vest Arrested as Tensions Rise

At 10:10pm, officers were called to Oxford Street after reports of a man acting suspiciously. The 33-year-old Victorian was quickly arrested. Upon searching him, police found a vest strapped with multiple taped items. They also uncovered a second vest, a face mask, and a tin containing suspected illegal drugs.

Thankfully, the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit confirmed neither vest was explosive or dangerous.

Facing Multiple Charges as Bail Denied

The man now faces charges of giving false information about danger, possession of prohibited drugs, and offensive behaviour in public. Bail was refused, and he is set to appear in court on Monday.
