Four dead and five injured in horror Bolton smash

A devastating two-car crash in Bolton left four people dead and five injured in the early hours today.

Tragic Head-On Collision on Wigan Road

The fatal collision happened just after 12.45am on Wigan Road. It involved a Citroën C4 Picasso private hire taxi and a red Seat Leon.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after locals reported hearing a “very loud bang.” Witnesses saw officers and paramedics desperately administering CPR at the roadside.

Four Confirmed Dead, Five Hospitalised

Police confirmed both drivers died along with two passengers from the Seat Leon. Five other passengers were rushed to hospital. Their conditions remain undisclosed.

A large police cordon remained in place throughout the morning while Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit began a forensic probe into the crash.

Photos showed both cars badly wrecked with one car’s front end almost obliterated as recovery teams cleared the scene.

Police Pursuit Rumours Quickly Quashed

Social media rumours claimed the crash followed a police chase but these have been firmly denied.

Rumworth councillor Ayyub Patel spoke with officers and said:

“I have spoken directly with officers, who have confirmed that no police or other authorities were involved.

This was an unfortunate and deeply distressing incident, resulting in fatalities and a number of injuries.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones affected, and my thoughts remain with all those impacted.

I ask the community to allow the investigation to proceed and to avoid speculation during this difficult time.”

Witnesses Describe Chaotic and Devastating Scene

Residents described panic and horror moments after the smash.

One witness said:

“I heard the loudest bang and I saw them doing CPR on the person who was in the car accident.

I saw the taxi driver’s passenger, a woman, get out of the taxi, and there were two other people in the taxi unconscious.”

Another brutally summed it up as “an absolute mess”.
