Man’s Body Found in Maidstone River – Police Urge Witnesses to Step Forward

Tragic Find on Broadway

Kent Police were called to Broadway in Maidstone at 8:12am on Friday, 2 January 2026, after a man’s body was pulled from the River Medway. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene but the victim, 55-year-old Terry Underhill from Maidstone, was pronounced dead. His family have been informed and are receiving support.

Death Not Treated as Suspicious, But Questions Remain

The police say Terry’s death is currently being treated as non-suspicious. However, a coroner’s investigation is underway. Detectives are keen to speak to anyone with information about his last movements to piece together what happened.

  • Terry was last seen around 9pm on Thursday, 1 January, on Quarry Road in Tovil.
  • He was wearing a dark grey coat, navy t-shirt, light grey tracksuit bottoms, and black shoes.

Police Launch Urgent Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

Officers are urging anyone who saw Terry on the night or has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to come forward. You can contact the West Kent appeals line on 01622 604100 quoting reference 46/879/26.
