Man Jailed for Rape After Shoreditch Night Out
Nathan Ashton, 37, with no fixed address, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday, 16 July. The court heard he raped a woman following a night out in Shoreditch in February 2023.
Denied Rape Claims, Jury Disagreed
The victim reported the attack to the police, who quickly launched an investigation. Ashton was arrested and questioned at a local police station but denied the rape allegation, claiming the sex was consensual. The jury saw things differently and found him guilty.
Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery
Detective Sergeant Ben Wallen, who led the case, commented: “Our officers were meticulous in their investigation against Ashton and secured a great outcome as a result.”
“The victim survivor is extremely brave for reporting this to police. We encourage all victims to come forward and speak with our specialist officers. It helps us take prolific offenders off our streets.”

How the Attack Unfolded
- On 19 February 2023, Ashton and the woman were out drinking with friends at a Shoreditch bar.
- The woman and two friends left, accepting a lift home from Ashton.
- She told police Ashton had been touching her inappropriately throughout the night, making her feel vulnerable.

- After going to bed in separate rooms, Ashton entered the victim’s room and raped her.
