Power Cut Strands Passengers at Heathrow Airport
Heathrow Airport was plunged into chaos early this morning (Thursday, December 5) after a power outage hit just before 3 a.m. The blackout caused major disruption to flights and sparked havoc with baggage handling.
Flights Grounded, Fueling Systems Affected
The outage lasted at least three hours, with passengers reporting a complete halt on departures until around 6 a.m. The power failure also knocked out the crucial fuel pumping systems used to refuel aircraft, compounding the delays.
“Just about to take off and the captain just announced a power outage affecting apparently the fuelling system at London Heathrow which is making all flights to be stopped until further notice,” tweeted frustrated passenger Fabrizio.
He added: “Our plane is still grounded, but the captain appears to be upbeat… Fuel recalculations are underway, and there is a possibility of waiting even longer once in London.”
Baggage Chaos Sparks Passenger Fury
Other travellers vented their frustration over the knock-on effects, with one describing “baggage chaos in Heathrow due to overnight power outage.”
Heathrow Airport has been approached for comment on the incident.
