Anti-Social Mob Spark Police Dispersal Order in Kent
Kent police sprang into action at 8pm after public calls reported a rowdy gang smashing glass bottles and hurling abuse in the Old Bridge Road area.
Joint Police Patrols Sweep Through Trouble Spots
Officers from Kent Police teamed up with British Transport Police to disperse the unruly crowd. Other groups in the nearby West Beach area were also moved on without fuss.
Dispersal Order Enforced Until Thursday Morning
The order covers from Joy Lane to Tower Hill, including Old Bridge Road and the train station. It will stay in place until 4 June to keep the peace.
During this time, officers and PCSOs can stop and move on anyone behaving anti-socially. Those who refuse or return risk arrest.
Community Safety Boss Issues Warning
Inspector Guy Thompson of Canterbury Community Safety Unit said: “Further orders will be introduced if similar situations arise again. We appreciate people want to enjoy our beaches in Whitstable and Herne Bay and everything our towns offer, but it should not come at the expense of residents, businesses, other visitors, or even themselves.”
“We remain in a pandemic and remind people to act responsibly and safely following government advice.”
“Nobody welcomes disorder, abuse, criminal damage or any other nuisance behaviour. I hope people consider the impact of their actions on others. If not, our officers will act firmly against persistent offenders.”
“Residents should keep reporting concerns via our website or call 101 (or 999 if a crime is in progress) to help us allocate resources effectively.”
