Police Chief Reacts to New Six-Person Rule in England
The National Chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales, John Apter, has responded to the Government’s bombshell announcement banning social gatherings of more than six people in England from Monday.
Police Brace for Spike in Pressure
“With COVID cases rising, this government move was expected,” Apter said. “But for policing, these constant law changes are the new normal. The pressure on officers has already surged in recent months, and this latest restriction will pile it on.”
He added, “My colleagues will support the public through these tough times. But they will also remind everyone: breaking these rules means breaking the law.”
Government Urged to Clear the Confusion
Apter slammed the Government for poor communication. “So many changes have left the public baffled. People don’t know what’s legal. The Government must launch a strong, clear information campaign — it’s essential,” he warned.
“We urge everyone to follow the rules. Stick to the new limits to protect each other and stop the virus spreading further.”
New Rules at a Glance
- Social gatherings slashed from 30 to six people, with some exemptions
- Limit applies everywhere: indoors, outdoors, for all ages
- Groups over six face fines or police dispersal
The Prime Minister will unveil full details in a press conference tomorrow.
