COVIDIOT Driver Sparks Epic Police Hunt After Wrong-Way A20 Crash in Orpington
A reckless driver sparked a massive police chase after tearing the wrong way up the A20 in Orpington. The wild pursuit involved FIVE police dogs, 20 officers, and a force helicopter – and ended in his dramatic arrest.
Wrong-Way Madness on the A20
The suspect, dubbed a “COVIDIOT” for his reckless behaviour, refused to stop for police before hurtling the wrong way along the busy A20. His escape attempt hit a brick wall when he smashed into a concrete bollard.
Massive Manhunt Launched
After crashing, the man bolted on foot, triggering a large-scale search. Officers from the Met Police’s traffic unit and specialist dog handlers swarmed the scene. Even the National Police Air Support helicopter joined the hunt.
A containment zone was quickly set up around the A20, including ground searches at Kemnal Tech College. Locals on Valley Road and The Green watched the drama unfold as police combed the area.
Found Hiding in Limo Owner’s Car
The driver was eventually found hiding inside a limousine company vehicle on The Green. The stunned limo owner said, “I hope he hasn’t damaged it or anything.”
The man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police and dangerous driving. He is now in custody.
A Met Police spokesman said: “At around 5pm on 6 May, police pursued a vehicle after it failed to stop in The Green, Orpington. The chase continued down the A20 before the occupant fled on foot in Sevenoaks Way, Sidcup. The man was arrested and taken into custody.”
