Ex-Sussex cop booted after groping two colleagues at off-duty do
Sexual assault scandal rocks Sussex Police
A former Sussex Police officer has been kicked out after sexually assaulting two colleagues and making inappropriate comments at a social event.
Olivia Clinton, 30, who served in East Sussex, was hauled before a misconduct hearing on 23 April at Sussex Police HQ. The hearing, chaired by Surrey’s Assistant Chief Constable Peter Gardner, followed new 2024 regulations demanding chief officer oversight.
Misconduct panel slams Clinton’s behaviour
The panel – including two independent members – heard that on 4 January 2024, Clinton made unwelcome sexual advances and remarks during a work-related social gathering. She was immediately suspended while police launched an internal investigation.
Though her actions didn’t meet the criminal prosecution threshold, they were serious enough for disciplinary action. Clinton resigned in February ahead of the hearing.
The panel ruled her conduct broke the police’s professional standards, citing discreditable conduct and lack of respect. Clinton admitted to gross misconduct.
Banned from policing for life
Clinton is now on the College of Policing Barred List, effectively banning her from any future policing role.
“The officer’s actions were unwanted and invasive,” said Detective Superintendent Andy Wolstenholme, deputy head of Sussex Police’s Professional Standards Department. “Police staff must never behave in a way that discredits the force or undermines public trust, on or off duty.”
Sussex Police reaffirmed their commitment to rooting out misconduct and preserving public confidence in the force.
