Million-Pound Mansion Engulfed in Fiery Inferno in Southgate
Massive Blaze Tears Through £1.8M Renovation Project
Chaos erupted in Southgate’s exclusive gated community, Ringmer Place, Winchmore Hill, as a major fire broke out on the evening of Wednesday, 23 October 2024. The £1.8 million property, known as Larkworthy, was undergoing extensive renovations when flames erupted just after 7pm.
The London Fire Brigade launched a huge response, dispatching six fire engines immediately. As the blaze intensified, more units rushed to the scene, turning the quiet neighbourhood into a hub of firefighting action.
Fire Crews Battle Against Access Issues and Raging Flames
Firefighters faced a tough challenge getting into the gated community. They had to stretch hoses from fire hydrants on Bush Hill just to battle the inferno. The flames quickly engulfed the front of the house before creeping up to the roof, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Investigation Launched as Firefighters Tackle Smouldering Hotspots
Larkworthy, last valued at £1.6 million, now lies badly damaged. Specialist officers from the London Fire Brigade have launched a full investigation, focusing on the cause amid ongoing renovation work on the property.
Fire crews remain at the scene overnight, using a 32-metre turntable ladder to douse stubborn hotspots and secure the site.
Official Response & Public Warning
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Access difficulties slowed our progress, but our firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze under challenging conditions. We are conducting a detailed investigation to determine the cause.”
Nearby residents are urged to steer clear of the area as emergency services complete their operations. The London Fire Brigade has promised updates as the investigation unfolds.
