Tragic Yacht Sinking Claims 18-Year-Old Oxford Hopeful Hannah Lynch

Heartbreak as divers recover the body believed to be 18-year-old Hannah Lynch from the wreck of luxury yacht Bayesian, which sank off Sicily during a freak storm. Hannah was the last missing victim in the disaster near Porticello, east of Palermo, which killed seven in total.

A Brilliant Young Life Cut Short

Friends remember Hannah as a “warm and beautiful soul.” Teachers called her a genius with “sky-high intellectual ability.” Fresh from A-levels, she had secured a place to study English at Oxford University, according to The Times.

Her father, Mike Lynch, dubbed the “UK’s greatest tech entrepreneur,” was also lost in the tragedy. His body was recovered earlier this week. The family shared a photo of Mike and Hannah as condolences pour in from across the country.

Who Else Lost in the Bayesian Disaster?

  • Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International Bank, and his wife Judy Bloomer
  • Chris Morvillo, lawyer at Clifford Chance, and his wife Neda Morvillo
  • The yacht’s chef, Recaldo Thomas

Amazingly, 15 people survived, including a one-year-old child and Hannah’s mother, Angela Bacares.

Gruelling Recovery Amid Murky Storm Details

Rescuers faced treacherous conditions, limiting dives to 12 minutes at a time. Despite the difficulties, recovery lasted days, ending with the heartbreaking discovery of Hannah’s body.

The Italian Coastguard confirmed raising the sunken yacht isn’t planned for now, though it lies “practically intact” on the seabed.

Meanwhile, Hannah’s former school, Latymer Upper in London, expressed deep shock. “We are all incredibly shocked by the news. Our thoughts are with their family,” a spokesperson said.

Tributes Keep Pouring In

As the rescue operation wraps up, the nation mourns Hannah, Mike Lynch, and the other victims. Their sudden loss in this freak maritime disaster has left friends, family, and the UK stunned.
