Met Officer Charged Over Sharing Rape Case CCTV
A Metropolitan Police officer faces serious charges after allegedly sharing CCTV images tied to the rape of two women, one of whom tragically died. PC Adam Aspinall Da Encarnacao, part of the West Area policing team, is due in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 12.
Tragic Death of Natalie Shotter Sparks Outrage
One victim, 37-year-old Natalie Shotter, was found dead in Southall Park on July 17, 2021, after a night out with friends. Her death has triggered furious criticism from her mother, Dr. Cas Shotter-Weetman, who accused the Met Police of a “huge dereliction of duty” over their handling of the case.
PC Encarnacao is accused of improperly possessing and sharing CCTV footage related to Ms. Shotter’s alleged rape. Her mother also condemned officers who reportedly refused to help when a male friend sought assistance for Natalie. Instead of intervening, the officers allegedly told him to call 101, ignoring urgent concerns.
Man Charged With Rape and Manslaughter
Following Natalie’s death, Mohamed Iidow, 34, with no fixed address, was charged last December with her rape and manslaughter. The Met Police have notified both Ms. Shotter’s family and the second woman involved about the charges against PC Encarnacao.
A Met spokesperson said, “Our thoughts and sympathies remain with them for their loss and for the impact this news will have.”
Officer Suspended and Facing Misconduct Charges
PC Encarnacao was arrested on September 12, 2022, and immediately suspended from duty. On July 3, 2024, he was charged with two counts of misconduct in public office. The Met’s Professional Standards officers are investigating the case, with a full misconduct hearing set to follow after the criminal trial concludes.
