Dramatic Standoff in Davenport Close as Police Arrest Man with Imitation Gun and Smoke Device
Police Called for Unrelated Arrest
Just before 10am on 28 August last year, officers arrived at a property in Carr Court, Davenport Close, to arrest 54-year-old Damian Mazurkiewicz for an unrelated matter.
Man Holds Imitation Firearm, Triggers Smoke Device
When police entered the address, they found Mazurkiewicz holding an imitation firearm. After being challenged, he pressed a trigger switch in his hand, releasing a burst of black smoke from a box strapped to his body.
Taser Deployed; Evacuation and Bomb Squad Called
Officers quickly deployed a Taser to subdue Mazurkiewicz and removed him from the scene along with the suspicious low explosive device. Nearby residents were evacuated as the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team raced to make the device safe.
