The drama unfolded around 6:30 pm on May 3, when locals alerted the Metropolitan Police about suspicious males carrying knives in the popular park.
Officers rushed to the scene and arrested one man on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

“Police were called at approximately 18:30hrs on Friday, 3 May by members of the public reporting a group of males in possession of knives in Croydon Recreation Ground in Beckenham. No reports of any injuries at this time. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
