Met Police Dogs and Officers Snag Top Award for Heroic Croydon Arrest
The Met Police have proudly crowned PC Colin Chappell, PC Dave Asquith, and their four-legged partners Remus and Sherpa as winners of this year’s NPCC Police Dog Action of the Year Award.
Gunshots, Six Arrests, and Guns Seized
It all went down on a Croydon estate in the early hours of 7 July last year. Responding to gunshot reports, PCs Chappell and Asquith, backed by Remus and Sherpa, played a crucial role in nabbing six suspects. Their quick thinking led to the recovery of a firearm and spent cartridges, averting what could have been a far worse incident.
Bravery and Skill Under Fire
PC Asquith and his toy-loving Sherpa, alongside the calm PC Chappell and laid-back Remus, showed outstanding pluck and professionalism during a tense, dangerous situation. Their sharp training and determination helped track down armed criminals quickly and safely.
“Their remarkable skills, professionalism, and commitment are invaluable in keeping our communities safe,” said Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, praising the officers and their heroic dogs.
