Cambridge Man Busted for Twisted Harassment Spree

Liviu Groparu, 38, from Peveral Road, Cambridge, fooled a woman into thinking she was being stalked by an ex-lover. But it was all a sick game – Groparu was behind a terrifying harassment campaign.

Flood of Threats Following Break-Up

Just days after their relationship ended in November 2022, the victim was bombarded with threatening texts and Facebook messages from unknown numbers and accounts. One message chillingly declared Groparu was “free to do what they want” now she was single.

Even her parents weren’t spared. They received abusive anonymous messages aimed at their daughter, with vile threats hinting at lifelong harm.

Damage, Fire, and Fear

On December 8th, the horror escalated. The victim got a message telling her to head outside for a “surprise.” She found a handwritten note on her car windscreen – and her tyres had been slashed.

Days later, another message warned her the tyre attack was just “a warning” and threatened to burn her alive if she went to the police. The victim’s family also received threats that she could be “mutilated for life.”

The nightmare peaked when the victim’s car was set ablaze in a nearby car park. Firefighters rushed to the scene as she watched in shock. Despite her telling him to stay away, Groparu turned up, forcing himself to stay until police arrived.

Groparu Exposed and Sent Down

Police investigation traced all the messages and calls back to Groparu. Despite his denials, he was found guilty of two counts of stalking, arson, and criminal damage.

On March 13th at Huntingdon Law Courts, Groparu was slapped with a three-year prison sentence and a five-year restraining order to keep him away from the victim and her family.

This chilling case is a stark warning about the dark side of toxic break-ups and digital stalking.
