Huge Whale Washes Up Dead on Littlehampton Beach – Council Urges Public to Keep Their Distance
Massive Minke Whale Found Stranded
A nearly five-metre whale was discovered washed up on a Littlehampton beach earlier today, sparking concern and a call for respect from Arun District Council. The whale, believed to be a Minke Whale, showed clear signs of damage and abrasions on its skin, possibly from collisions with rocks during its final journey ashore.
Council and Coastguard Launch Swift Response
The Littlehampton Coastguard Rescue Team, joined by Solent Coastguard and Arun District Council officials, sprang into action after reports at 12:30pm. They quickly secured the area to manage public safety and co-ordinated the removal of the whale’s carcass.
Respect Urged in Wake of Tragic Discovery
A spokesperson for Arun District Council said:
“We know this time of year often brings marine life ashore. We’ve arranged for the whale to be taken away following protocol and strongly urge people not to visit the site.”
“Please act sensibly, keep dogs on leads, and give this majestic creature the respect it deserves.”
Operation Complete, But Reminder to Honour Wildlife
The contracted removal team has successfully cleared the whale, ending the operation. Authorities remind the community to treat such tragedies with dignity and to honour nature’s creatures, no matter how somber the occasion.
