High-Speed Chase Ends in Devastating Crash in Croydon
A driver has been arrested following a dramatic police pursuit in New Addington that spiralled into chaos late Monday night.
Driver Rams Police Before Wreck on Gravel Hill
The chase kicked off just before midnight on March 13, 2023, when a BMW refused to stop for a marked police patrol on Kent Gate Way, Addington. The suspect allegedly tried to ram officers off-road, leaving him seriously injured and requiring on-scene treatment by police.
The pursuit ended in a horrific collision on Gravel Hill, Croydon, involving two vehicles — the fleeing BMW and a Vauxhall Mokka.
Emergency Crews Rush to Scene, Multiple Injuries Reported
- London Air Ambulance paramedics and the London Fire Brigade were dispatched immediately.
- Several people were trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued.
- A 39-year-old man in the Vauxhall was rushed to St George’s Hospital with serious, possibly life-changing injuries.
- Two women from the BMW were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and treated for minor injuries.
Road Closure and Ongoing Investigation
Gravel Hill has been closed for nearly eight hours while Met Police’s Catford Traffic Garage conducts a full predictive collision investigation.
A Met Police spokesman said: “At approximately 11:49pm on Monday, 13 March, a BMW failed to stop for police and was later involved in a collision with another car on Gravel Hill.”
The scene remains under investigation, with crime scene tapes still up. The Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed as standard procedure.
