Police Launch Crackdown on Egg Thieves Targeting Rare Birds This Spring
Crackdown on Nest Interference
Police are on high alert this spring, urging the public to report anyone tampering with wild bird nests, harming birds, or stealing eggs. Despite decades-old laws banning such acts, offenders are still targeting rare breeding birds across the UK.
Operation Easter Targets Wildlife Crime
Co-ordinated by the National Wildlife Crime Unit, Operation Easter aims to stop this illegal activity by sharing intelligence nationwide and supporting local enforcement efforts.
Police Seek Public Help to Protect Birds
Detective Inspector Tim Boulton from the Rural and Wildlife Crime Unit said: “We have many bird species in the county and have identified hotspot areas for these crimes. Officers are working with wildlife groups and nest watch schemes to guard these zones and secure our wild birds’ futures.”
“If you see anyone interfering with nests or stealing eggs, please let us know. If safe, record what you see as it could be vital evidence, but don’t put yourself in danger,” he added.
