Gang Knife Attack: Jardel Jones Jailed for 21 Years
Jardel Jones, 21, of Homerton Terrace, East London, was found guilty of conspiracy to murder and possession of offensive weapons at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday, 23 May.
Brutal Stabbing on Gang Rideout
Jones was sentenced the following day to 21 years for conspiracy to murder, plus two years for carrying a knife and ten months for possessing a corrosive substance. All sentences will run concurrently.
The court heard Jones took part in a gang rideout on 17 June 2020. He and others travelled by car to Gilpin Square, E5, specifically looking to attack a rival gang member.
At around 4:30pm, Jones spotted a 17-year-old boy cycling nearby. He jumped out, chased the teenager and stabbed him in the back before fleeing the scene.
The victim was rushed to hospital but his injuries were not life-threatening.
Detectives Crack Case Despite Silence from Victim
Hackney’s Gang Task Force launched a full investigation, despite the victim refusing to cooperate. Detectives pieced together CCTV footage and phone records to build a strong case against Jones.
Jones was arrested on 22 June 2020 but refused to answer questions. He was also linked to an earlier attack involving a corrosive substance in Bentham Road, Hackney on 25 March 2020.
Police Send Warning to Gang Criminals
Detective Sergeant Andy Rice, Hackney Gangs Task Force, said: “This was a tough investigation because the victim wouldn’t engage. But our team gathered solid evidence to make sure Jones was held accountable. Special credit goes to PC Lewis Burke for his hard work and prosecutors Oliver Dunkin and Sam Trefgarne for securing this conviction. “This verdict sends a clear message to those involved in gang violence and intimidation: the police will hunt you down, arrest you, and make sure you face justice.”
