Violent Ex-Burglar Jailed for Brutal Assault on Former Partner
Knife-Wielding Attack in Chatham
Michael Yeo, 26, was locked up at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, 4 February 2022. He pleaded guilty to assault, kidnap, affray, criminal damage, possession of a bladed weapon, and breaching his prison licence.
The violent incident unfolded in Chatham last September when Yeo, who has no fixed address, launched a savage attack on his ex-partner following an argument.
Fleeing Victim Threatened with Knife
Yeo had been out on temporary licence from HMP Sudbury after a 2019 burglary conviction but failed to return to custody.
During the fight, he punched his victim repeatedly in the shoulder before sinking his teeth into her ear. When she tried to escape to a neighbour’s house, Yeo menaced her with a knife, forcing her back inside.
Police were called to the scene and arrested Yeo, who was swiftly charged with multiple offences.
Police Warn on Domestic Abuse
“Yeo subjected his former partner to a frightening and vicious assault,” said PC Harry Groves from the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad. “Domestic abuse is a real threat that both women and men can face and it is important victims come forward so we can investigate properly.
“Kent Police takes domestic abuse extremely seriously. Too often victims stay silent, hoping their partner will change. They often feel isolated and scared.
“I want to remind victims they are not alone. If you’re in this situation, please call us. Domestic abuse is never acceptable, and as this case shows, offenders will be punished.”
