Kent Man Locked Up and Slapped with Massive Cash Repayment Order

Karl Lockey, 33, from Dartford, Kent, has been ordered to cough up nearly £687,000 after being jailed for money laundering. The cash was found stashed in supermarket and sports bags at his home, alongside luxury gear confirming his lavish criminal lifestyle.

Cash Haul and Luxury Loot Discovered in Police Raid

Back in October 2020, Lockey was sentenced to two years for laundering money following a probe led by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU). The bust was part of Operation Venetic, a nationwide crackdown targeting criminals using encrypted phones to dodge justice.

During the raid, officers found £632,000 hidden in 12 bags at Lockey’s Sinclair Way address. They also seized an Encrochat phone, a cash counting machine, motor vehicles, motorcycles, designer watches, clothes, and pricey fishing gear – all flags of a criminal-funded lifestyle.

More Than £2 Million Laundered – Now Must Be Repaid or Face More Jail

Further inquiries by ERSOU’s Criminal Finances Team revealed Lockey had laundered over £2 million. The cash haul was tied directly to his dodgy dealings.

At Woolwich Crown Court, he was handed a confiscation order to repay £686,599.40 within three months – or risk an extra six months behind bars.

Detective’s Warning: Criminal Cash Has Now Left the Building

“Lockey was a trusted component in criminal efforts to launder illicitly made money, and it was important that the cash found in his home and the value of his assets were confiscated from him,” said Detective Inspector Rob Turner of ERSOU.

“Messages on the Encrochat system showed Lockey arranging secret meetings with passwords, sharing pictures of cash stacks, and receipts of counted money. There was no doubt he had to hand the money over.”

“I’m delighted that such a large sum has been taken out of criminal hands.”
