Brutal Smethwick Attack Lands Trio Behind Bars
Three men were locked up after a vicious assault left a man in his 20s fighting for recovery in hospital.
Violent Assault in Broad Daylight
On August 2, 2020, at the junction of Vincent Road and Wyld’s Lane, Marius Anton Roman, 33, along with Cristi-Daniel Stefanescu, 20, and Ionut Alexandru Tudor, 19, all from Poplar Road, Smethwick, attacked a young man. The victim was struck by a car before the trio launched a brutal assault, causing serious injuries to his leg.
Harsh Sentences for Attackers
- Marius Anton Roman was handed a heavy sentence of 10 years and six months for Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH).
- Cristi-Daniel Stefanescu and Ionut Alexandru Tudor each received 17 months for Actual Bodily Harm (ABH).
All three are set for deportation once their sentences are served.
Community Steps In, Justice Served
Local residents stayed with the injured man, providing first aid and calling emergency services. Thanks to their quick action and bravery in giving witness statements, police were able to bring the offenders to justice.
Detective Inspector Tony Garner praised the sentences, saying: “We are pleased with the sentence that has been handed out for this extremely violent attack. I am pleased to see these aggressive men taken off the streets for the crimes they have committed.”
He added: “The victim received substantial injuries that will affect him into the future, but thanks to members of our local community, he received the immediate medical care he needed.”
Shocking Bribe Attempt
While recovering in hospital, the victim was sent a staggering £50,000 bribe via Facebook from Roman, who tried to persuade him not to report the crime. The offer only strengthened the case against the attackers.
