Met Police Gear Up to Smash ‘Tunnel Run’ Car Cruise Chaos This Bank Holiday
The Met has launched a tough operation to tackle mayhem caused by huge groups of motorists this weekend. Every year, the notorious ‘Tunnel Run’ sees swarms of cars clog up London’s roads and this August Bank Holiday is no different.
Car Meets and Cruises Set to Bring Motor Madness
On Sunday 30 August and throughout the Bank Holiday weekend, car meets and cruises will roar through London. These gatherings have caused serious disruption before and threaten to bring the capital’s busy road network to a standstill once again.
To keep the chaos in check, a massive policing effort will be in full swing. Officers will deploy static cameras, CCTV, ANPR, and In Tunnel Technology, along with increased patrols and crackdowns across the city.
No Nonsense Warning from the Met’s Top Traffic Cop
Inspector Craig Hands, from the Met’s Roads and Transport Command, said:
“Disruption to our tunnels, vital links for residents and visitors alike, is simply not on. “Some may wrongly think this is a lawful enthusiast event. It’s not. These drivers want to cause as much disruption as possible and we will not tolerate it. “Our officers, working with local Borough teams, will use every tactic to stop antisocial driving and related offences.”
Londoners are urged to plan their journeys carefully and expect police to stamp out trouble this Bank Holiday weekend.
