Knives, Cocaine and Cash Seized in Medway Police Sting – Six Arrested
Kent Police, teaming up with British Transport Police and their trusty canine Max, cracked down hard on crime at Chatham Train Station. The raid on 15 August 2020 landed cannabis, cocaine, cash, a knife, and a metal bar off the streets – and saw six people hauled in.

Notorious Names Face Charges
David O’Connor, 28, from High Street, Chatham, is charged with carrying a knife in a public place after being stopped in the operation. He’s been bailed and must answer to Medway Magistrates’ Court on 22 September.
Daryl Bethel, just 18, from Edwin Street, Gravesend, was nabbed for an outstanding warrant linked to a robbery, theft and assault at a Milton Road petrol station on 30 March. He appeared at Woolwich Crown Court on 17 August and was remanded until 20 August.
Others Held, Then Released Pending Enquiries
- A 35-year-old Gillingham man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon
- Two 18-year-olds from Chatham and Sittingbourne on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply
- A 24-year-old woman on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker
Police Vow to Keep Up the Fight
Community Safety Unit Inspector Matthew Burbeck said: “This was another successful joint operation in which we removed a knife and metal pole from being on the streets in Chatham as well as seizing a number of drugs.
“Activity like this helps us gather intelligence and demonstrates our commitment to protecting the public from criminal activity. We will continue to work with our partners to carry out this proactive approach to tackling and disrupting the supply of drugs within Medway.”
